Durability Notes:
Heartwood durability is variable. Tests on coigue show low resistance to decay fungi, though some references give a provisional durable to moderately durable rating. (Source: Tropical Timbers of the World (Chudnoff, USDA Forest Service, 1984).)

Seasoning:
Rauli dries rather slowly but well, with little degrade, and movement is probably small. Kiln schedule T6-D2 is suggested for 25 mm (4/4) stock and T3-D1 for 50 mm (8/4). (Source: Tropical Timbers of the World (Chudnoff, USDA Forest Service, 1984).)

Properties:
For rauli and coigue together: basic specific gravity 0.45 to 0.53 and air-dry density 34 to 40 lb per cubic foot (about 545 to 640 kg/m3); Janka side hardness 840 lbf (3,740 N) green and 990 lbf (4,400 N) at 12% moisture content (species not specified). Shrinkage of rauli from green to oven-dry is 3.5% radial and 7.0% tangential. Both are easy to work, dress cleanly, have fair to good steam-bending qualities and are easy to glue and finish.
